I assumed that Fediverse could really be an open, progressive environment where to discuss ideas and grow up, with different points of view. But what I'm finding lately, is something different. Narration going from "pro AI / glasses" to "no AI / glasses" so if you don't maintain a position, you are just in favor of fascists or perverts.
The last one I had a discussion with, called me "a waste of time" because I made him realize that a sighted pervert can use his own eyes, without glasses, while I fasten my shoes strings, bent over. Instead of joining me, thinking of a proposal to satisfy blind people's needs while protecting privacy, no. The problem is me.
Same for github/codeberg stuff: do AI-built pull-requests ruin open source software? Yes.
Is AI-generated code dirty and unreliable? Yes.
Have hand made coders the right to prohibit automated code? Yes, of course.
But same coders, went on for years saying "I'm an independant coder, a small company, I have no resources to make it accessible to blind, if you need it, make it yourself".
Now, thanks to assisted coding, many of us blind are doing exactly this: trying to solve their gaps by having the bots fix the issue. Then, to help other users (and the coder himself), they place the fix in form of pull request, into the repository. And it's often refused.
But, would the original coder ever solve accessibility? No. I'm alone, it's a small company, you're the first blind user I hear, and similar bullshit.
What, the fuck, should, we, do?
From far-right, I know what to expect: they're racist, ableists, and all the worst. They don't hide it. But I couldn't definitely expect such behaviours from people caring for freedom, ethics, open technologies, etc. I'm fed up of being considered an object who can gladly be sacrificed for purity of something or someone.

Unfortunately, being on the right side of history isn't enough to avoid being complete assholes... 😅

Today I am mostly learning PHPUnit so I can add some tests to #ActivityBot.
Interesting to see what assumptions I've made along the way and what the consequences are.
I also wish there were a schema for #ActivityPub JSON which I could use to test my outputs.

Modern manufacturing has improved such that mixer taps are available that can handle a mismatch in water pressure between the two sides, but that's relatively recent. Historically, you couldn't do it, so we had two taps.
But crucially, this means many British homes have a 500l tank of clean water in the roof that with a little care is available for use in the event of an emergency.
I've even seen talk that the reason this was the norm is cos cold war resilience.

@quixoticgeek I'd heard it's not Cold War resilience, but dates from much earlier times (19th century, possibly) when water supplies were intermittent. Simple "back boilers" on solid fuel appliances can be damaged if they're heated without water in them. Having a loft tank to buffer your supply means you keep water in your boiler and your non-potable cold taps.
(The rural 19th century house my parents moved into in the 1970s still had an underground water tank fed from the guttering.)

@randahl AfD is polling at 41.7 percent, 39 of 83 seats, just one seat short of the 42 needed to govern outright. Clear that bar and it becomes the first far right party to hold German state power in 77 years.
Fall short and it forces Merz's CDU into a coalition it has publicly ruled out. No easy outcome today either way.

@FreakyFwoof @KaraLG84 I think no platform can be called "safe" from this point of view. Tolerance and welcoming, depend on people. And if people have poor education/knowledge, they behave exactly the same way, whatever platform they're in and whatever political/sexual/religious orientation they have.

Sadly mount -o union is not recursive, which makes the kind of impermanence I had in mind more complicated. OTOH, mount_union is recursive, so that might be helpful - but I need to read its manpage fully, to see if it's a good fit.
